Operation de-googlize my life failed

Posted on 07/08/2012 in misc

It's been a while since I updated this subject. The effort pretty much failed. Zoho Mail was ok, but at the end of the day do I trust a programming team in India more than I trust Google? Also, Zoho spam filtering was inconsistent. So I'm back on Gmail, although I'm using Thunderbird as I just don't like the new Gmail interface.

Bloglines also starting having issues. It likes to randomly puke up 3000 old messages as unread, which is a pain. I also don't like the new look of GReader. What I really wanted was a way to sync RSS across multiple computers right on Thunderbird. That doesn't seem possible, although I have found a workaround that has potential. I installed the Web Application Tab extension in Thunderbird, then pointed it to the mobile version of GReader. I'm going to give it a week, but so far I think this works for me.

I like hearing from readers, all three of you! Nobody comments on blogs anymore, and I'd rather not use Facebook or Twitter as a comment system so it's back to the email.
