There are only 3 ways this pandemic can end

Like everybody else, the pandemic is "top of mind" 24 x 7 for me. I'm writing to help myself not internalize all of it. You can find other posts in the series at https://odonnellweb.com/pelican/tag/coronavirus.html

There are only three ways this pandemic ends.

1. A vaccine
2. A “cure” that makes getting the virus no big deal
3. Herd immunity when only the survivors are left standing

That’s it, and none of them are going to happen by this summer. You can’t pray it away. You can’t demand the government do something. You can’t shoot it with your AR-15. Either you die, or you outlast it by getting a mild case and becoming immune, or by avoiding it until the vaccine is available. I intend to avoid it.

So that brings up the question, how are you going to avoid it? Avoiding it means 12-24 months of social distancing, working from home, wearing a mask, and avoiding any sort of group gathering. Are you prepared to do that?

I have to do it. Don’t know if I’m prepared for it or not. I don’t know how to prepare for it. I’m very much in one day at a time mode right now.

And today involved sleeping in, a long walk while listening to an audiobook, my book club (now virtual), which involved a couple of beers during the meeting, a simple dinner of hot dogs, chip and salsa, and mango, and shortly I will end the day by lounging on the couch watching American Idol with Michelle.
