It’s kind of embarrassing to admit that last night was my first Jimmy Buffett show. Real life events have conspired for about the last decade to keep me busy on the weekends when he was in town. It was worth the wait. All the stories you’ve heard over the years about his live shows are 100% true. We had a blast, and we didn’t get anything close to the full Jimmy Buffett tailgating experience as Jiffy Lube Live is a sub-optimal location for tailgating. Alcohol is technically not allowed, although they mostly look the other way as long as you are not obvious about it. Setting up a full Tiki Bar, which happens in the parking lots of Buffett shows, isn’t going to happen here.
So, obviously, a road trip is in order. Who wants to find the ultimate tailgating parking lot next year?
Also, this conversation really happened.
Random Drunk Guy: Dude, I just met the hottest girl. I don’t think I’ll ever see her again though.
Me: That sucks dude.
RDG: How about you?
Me: I brought a hot girl with me.
RDG: Damn, that’s a good idea.
I didn’t realize bringing a date to a concert was a radical idea.

Huge Buffet fans here. I was single the first few times I saw him live. Introduced my then-fiance to him and we’ve been to a number of shows over the years. And a few years ago we were able to take the boys in Honolulu (Jake Shimabukuro opened/played the show with him, so that was fun). My kids were a *little put out by the drunk woman who face planted on our blanket, but overall they gave it a thumbs up.
