Is it time to kill commissions?

Daniel Pink is looking at the issue of commission based pay for salespeople. I looked at this issue back in 2004. Millions of people read Daniel Pink. Dozens read me. Further proof that the universe is not fair ;)

I don’t think anything has really changed with regards to anything I wrote back in 2004. I like the opportunity to bump my income significantly by closing a big deal or two, so I would not want commission based pay to go away completely. But I do agree that in today’s more complex sales environment, it’s not all about the sales rep anymore, if it ever really was.

I read something somewhere that did a study of profit & salaries in large natioanl chains. The ones that paid more generous salaries to the store staff were more profitable.
