School Lunches Were Never Like This

Fast FoodFredericksburg Christian Lower (Elementary) caters in fast food every single day.

Monday – Pizza of undetermined origin.
Tues – KFC
Wed – Subway
Thur – Salsarita’s
Fri – Dairy Queen

Really? This is what they are teaching kids about healthy eating? This is a $7000 a year private school, you’d think they could do better than pump the kids full of fat and sodium every day at lunch. Are the parents there really ok with this?

Oh, and if your parents forget to add money to your lunch account?

Lower School students who do not have a lunch or a balance in their account, will be given a package of crackers and water and we will send you a note advising you of that action.

Obviously, no kid going to this school is depending on the school lunch as his only decent meal of the day, However, the prison like crackers and water bit is a little over the top. More sodium too! I’d think for $7000 a year the school could toss a hungry kid an apple.

Is this as ridiculous as it looks to me?

Hi, I don’t have children but this subject is very interesting.
I found the menu used by the elementary school in my little town (quite 7000 abitants in the north of Italy near Milan) to make a comparison and to give a suggestion to your school executives.
Please note that this is a public school (yes PUBLIC AND FREE FOR ALL) payed by taxes

Each student has 3 different choices each day, this is an example of one o these menu during a week in the autumn/winter season. Each menu changes for the spring/summer season, with diffent vegetables and fruits.
Clearly if a child has some problems (for example allergy or intolerance to some ingredient) can ask for a different menu agreed with teachers and school executives.

    Mon
    Pasta with tomato souce
    Chicken breast cooked with milk
    Peas and carrots
    wholemeal bread
    Season fruits

    Tue
    Rice soup with potatoes
Veal steak cooked with lemon sauce
Zucchini “al graten” (cooked in the owen with bread gratin)
    Bread
    Fruits

    Wed
    Cannelloni with ricotta and spinach
    Fennels
    Bread
    Fruits

    Thu
    Gnocchi with pomato souce
    Artichokes omelette
    Mixed salad
    Bread
    Fruits

    Fri
    Parmigiana rice
    Sole cooked in the owen
    Beans
    Bread
    Fruits
