Arlington National Cemetery

Breck and I spent the day at Arlington National Cemetery. I’ve lived in VA for 13 years, yet somehow never made it there. The views from Arlington House are amazing. It’s easy to understand why they built that house where they did. The cemetery is huge. I’m guessing we walked about 4 miles today. Of course, we hit all the major sites like the JFK Memorial, and the Tomb Of The Unknown Solider. Crowds were light, and once we wandered off away from the tour stops we pretty much had the grounds to ourselves. We wandered off the roads frequently to get a close up look at an interesting looking Memorial, or just to take a minute to contemplate the life of somebody who we will never know. I actually found the graves of strangers much more moving than the tourist attraction graves. I’d like to think I earned a little karmic good today by taking the time to think about the life of the relatively anonymous Corporal whose grave I was looking at. Some of those guys probably haven’t had anybody think about them for quite a while.

Thanks for posting such amazing photos.
I found them very moving to look at and also moved by the thought all those regular people that gave of their service to our country.
Never been to Arlington myself but now have it on my to do list.
