I always label such people, “possible Pentagon AI experiments.” I figure if anyone is doing AI development, the blogosphere is the perfect testing zone. So you never know if the guy or girl your chatting with is a black box in some restricted basement somewhere.
I use the word e-quaintance a lot, but I don’t think it describes the level of e-lationship you’re talking about.
“On line friend” sounds slightly creepy, but it’s what I hear frequently. OLF doesn’t work though.
Cyber friend?
I confess, I usually just say “friends” and explain that I’ve never met them but I “know them online” if I have to later.
