Philly Slideshow

Write up, stories, and snarky comments about Philadelphia drivers will be coming in the next couple of days. In the meantime, enjoy the slide show. Larger pictures. I suggest clicking pause as soon as the slide show below starts, and then clicking through manually. The pictures fly by quickly, and I can’t find a way [...]

Things I might write about next week.

Philadelphia drivers – even worse than Boston. That’s not your toothbrush honey, that’s the fridge. Can you move the Muffy and Buffy social hour somewhere other than the Tut exhibit please? Franklin’s Fountain – best ice cream ever? Who designed the toll plaza on the Ben Franklin Bridge? The Tut exhibit was very cool, the [...]

Funky Tut

We are getting ready to head out to the King Tut exhibit. I prepared the kids by sharing this classic from history. This is the kind of education you just can’t get in a public school.

Away

We are deep into a rich and meaningful educational experience for the kids. Probably won’t be anything to read here in the next couple of days.

I can has a wireless mouse and keyboard?

The corporate masters sent this Rocketfish wireless mouse and keyboard. It arrived on Michelle’s birthday. You can probably guess where the new keyboard and mouse was installed. BTW, thanks guys. I really appreciate you showing up my meager birthday present I ran the install CD, plugged in the USB/Bluetooth adapter, and it just worked. There [...]

The future of health care?

This doctor in NYC: 1. Doesn’t have an office – he works by house call only. 2. Works on a subscription or retainer type plan. You pay an annual fee to be a patient. That fee covers the first two appointments. 3. Takes appointments by web form, text message, IM, or cell phone. 4. Does [...]

Space, the final frontier

In honor of the 50th anniversary of the Sputnik launch, the science section of the NYT is looking backwards, and forward, at The Space Age. There is a lot to read there, and I plan to read it all.

The return of Music Monday and Monkey Monday

In the past I have posted both weekly music entries, and for a short while I posted something about monkeys on Mondays. So the glorious return of both features is combined into one post.

Quote of the Day: Salary Monkey edition

Clutching your forehead every time your BlackBerry bleeps does not mark you out as an alpha male; it makes you look like a salary monkey on a short leash. From this somewhat obnoxious article on chivalry. For the record, I hold the door for anybody that may be directly following me, male or female.

The best use of 105 minutes you’ll be offered all day

Watch the whole video of the presentation by Dr. Randy Pausch that I blogged yesterday. The world really can’t afford to lose people like him. If you can get through the whole thing without tearing up you are a far tougher person than I. I created a new category just for him. It didn’t seem [...]

The Blue School

It’s a pre-school started by the founders of The Blue Man Group. I bet art and music time will totally rock there.

Giant boobs distract drivers

I got nothing to add to that headline. Although I do know now what my brother is getting for Christmas.

He with the busiest calender does not win

You know, it’d be a lot easier if you guys didn’t homeschool. Then we’d be on the same schedule. It’s really hard to coordinate things with you because you don’t have a routine like we do. Yes, if we all just followed the government mandated schedule our lives would be easier. Or not.

The last lecture, for real

Apparently, it’s a common thing in University land to have professors give their hypothetical last lecture as an exercise in focusing on what’s important. I suspect most of those pale in comparison to this lecture by a 46 year old professor who is in fact giving his last lecture. He expects to die from cancer [...]

Socialized medicine doesn’t include oral hygiene

57% of French children under age 5 have never brushed their teeth. 1/2 of all French never brush their teeth in the evening. It sort of makes you wonder about the origins of French kissing. 50/50 odds it won’t be real pleasant experience with somebody actually from France.
