What online journal would you recommend for Girlie for her creative writing for this year? She has been requesting an account, and I was going to just get her a blog, but wondered if there is something better for a 13 yr old? (who isn't going to post photos of herself in a belly shirt licking a lollypop!)

In the future, we will have desktops in our brains. We will be able to take video and audio and post it in communal message boards or blogs straight from our skulls. When we meet somebody, we will be able to exchange digital business cards stating our backgrounds, affiliations, etc. These will inlcude our "profiles." However, in the future, there will be as many social networking communities as there are today, if not more, and when we exchange digital business cards, there will be some confusions due to the incompatability of our profiles.

Example: I meet Chris in a bar. We start talking microbrews. We exchange cards via digital telepathy. I get a very basic txt profile on him but learn that he is a member of Microbrews and Homeschools, of which I am not a member. So this profile is off limits to me, unless I want to join. I may tell me brain to create a login for me so I can see more info about my new drinking buddy.

Or I could just, you know, talk to the guy. Just my two cents, but I see us all living in the novel Snow Crash some day.

Was just poking around a bit more with Netvibes and found something I hadn't seen before -- you can add to your dashboard a link to any web page that doesn't have a built-in NV module or feed. Of course, it doesn't address your desire for one-button selective publish, but you could at least read everything in one spot.

Try netvibes.com for your web dashboard. It offers Twitter and MySpace modules already, and can do anything else that has RSS.

He just got tossed off about a month ago. I think you can register without an affiliation, but if you register as a high school student, you have to choose an actual high school. I think all the homeschooled kids were using Keystone as an affiliation to make it easier to find each other, although I'm not sure about that (and Alex isn't here for me to ask).
