I don’t know about that, but he did have a grand time in his first semi-formal fencing competition. The Squires of Dark Horse Fencing (ages 9-12) traveled West to Harrisonburg, VA to battle their foes, the Harrisonburg Fencing Club, in a team relay challenge.
Two teams from DHFC and two teams from HFC met on the strip in a battle of mind and mettle. The Dark Horse teams finished 1-2. Breck’s team came in 2nd, although he is quick to remind us that they did defeat the tournament champions on the strip. Breck fought 9 bouts, and by my count he outscored his opponent in 7 of the 9.
More pictures are available in the Flickr sidebar. And I’ll have a few seconds of video available as soon as Google processes it and makes it available. I do mean a few seconds though. Pre-teen fencing is best described as many 8 second bursts of activity, separated by 30 second breaks as the official explains the action and awards touches.
