ZDNET has a scary article about laid off tchnology workers taking blue collar jobs just to pay the bills, because they can’t find anything else to do. Sometimes I have a hard time completely believing these stories. I suspect there are often other factors at work that the author of the story doesn’t bother to report. Also, I think part of it is that the dot com boom handed out a lot of over inflated titles, so a lot of 25 year old kids have unrealistic title and pay expectations. Luckily, I’m just a common sales guy. If I can’t stay in technology I could make enough selling cars to pay the mortgage and put food on the table.

there was a ton of whining about this article going on over at Slashdot today. Reaching fever pitch…
What many of these geeks fail to realise is that the dotcom bubble inflated their expectations so much that they can’t endure the thought of doing something as hideous as, say, getting 50k per annum doing government contract work.
Lots of spoiled-sounding brats who, truth be told, probably cringe at the thought of not being able to play foosball and drinking gratis caffeine in their bunny slippers after rolling into the office at 11am.
50k sounds real good to me!
I’m still thinking the economy will come back and use them, even if not as profitably to them.
