As I sat in traffic this morning watching the cars in the Dulles Toll Road HOV lane whiz by, I noticed the following:
Percentage of cars violating the law with a single driver – 25%
Percentage of Mercedes violating the law with a single driver – 100%

Let x = percentage of Mercedes drivers violating the law who are stopped by law enforcement; and y = the percentage of all other drivers stopped for violating the law; and z = the number of Mercedes drivers who actually have to pay some sort of penalty for violating the law (beyond having their lawyers “work it out”).
I predict

The reason I don’t hop over into the HOV lane myself is that I know that at the exact instant I do it, some anomoly in the space-time continuum will instantly deliver a state trooper to the toll road about 1/10 of a mile ahead of where I merge into the HOV lane.
Mrs. Oyamot – yikes! I don’t remember her being particularly young back in 1985…maybe it was just my perception of “old” when I was 17!
